Cetona is a typical Tuscan village of two thousand inhabitants in the province of Siena. It is located at the foot of the homonymous mountain, at about 385 metres above sea level and it is immersed in the green hills of Val di Chiana close by Val d’Orcia, among olive-trees, clays, cypresses and vineyards that decorate this area. Its unmistakable colours are attributed to wheat and sunflowers.
Cetona is a member of “Italy’s most beautiful villages” club and it is “Orange Flag” of the Italian Touring Club.
Tourists cannot lose the opportunity to visit the Civic Museum of prehistory of Mount Cetona and the Archaeological Naturalistic Park of Belvedere, as well as the Collegiate Church and the San Francesco’s Monastery.
Cetona is near to some towns of cultural and historic importance such as Chiusi, Montepulciano, Pienza and Città della Pieve, and you can easily reach it both from Rome and Florence by the A1 motorway exit of Chiusi – Chianciano Terme.
In Cetona there are numerous initiatives, among them stand out: Cetona in Flower (Cetona in fiore) at the end of April and the extra virgin olive oil fest (Sagra dell’olio extravergine di oliva) at the end of December. Finally an unmissable event is the Race of Jugs (Corsa delle brocche) : a medieval challenge among the quarters of the town that takes place at the end of August.
